Female Fiction Writers You Should Follow On IG.

While sitting many hours during those days at Rm 102, Faculty of Arts building, University of Lagos, you wonder what business you have exactly with Seethe, Denver and Beloved in Toni Morrison’s Beloved or Mrs Shelby and Mrs Bird in Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom Cabin! These women shaped the imaginative world they lived in, impacted on their lives of their male counterparts and blah blah, blah.

It’s fine reading up A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Wolf, but all you get is the popular dictum that “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction, “ because trust me if you try to finish it all on your own, your head would probably be ‘turnioniown’.

Ask any questions after the classes, you can get spark notes to the rescue or God help you get CDs sold at ‘oyinbo’ and watch with your one and only laptop you have in your room.

That is not the story today!

Today is World Book Day, and I am free-styling my writing so as to celebrate super strong women, because ‘Women are the real architects of society, they can create anything they want’.

In all my twenty-something years on earth, I have seen women create and re-create things, families, businesses, solutions and most especially books.

Writing creatively has become trendy in Nigeria for the past few years, many students now have writing professionally as their future ambition, compared to when writers were shunned or laughed at or even involved in political dramas, some female writers have risen to the limelight thanks to digitization of literary works, you can avoid the stress of publication through e-books and other platforms like ‘okadabooks’.

Here are my modern female fiction writers on Instagram you should follow too:
Lola Akande @lola_akande
Abimbola Alao @storytellerambibola
Maryam Awuisa @maryamawaisu_
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie @ chimamanda_adichie
Oyinkan Braithwait @oyinbraithwaite
Tomi Adeyemi @tadeyemibooks
Akwaeke Emezi -@azemezi

I know some people are asking me for the names of their books, seek and ye shall find, don’t thank me. What are we friends for if not for inconveniences?
Happy reading!
Happy World Book Day!
Read a book, save a life!
